“We must admit there will be music despite everything."
I resonated this morning with that line from a poem by Jack Gilbert.
In difficult times, it is a spiritual discipline for me to focus on His presence (His music), deep in my soul, the music of hope and joy and peace and love. It seems harder in times like the current world reality; but still, The music is there because God is faithful and good even when I am not. He is good and faithful when I am frustrated and discouraged as well.
We who follow Jesus do not escape times of difficulty, (John 16:33); nor do we simply whistle in the dark as positive thinkers when we encounter the evils of this present world.
Instead, our response is that we worship, we pray, we work, we wait, we bless, we sacrifice, we give, we serve others,(including our enemies), and we hope because we know ". . .nothing . . . can separate us from the love of God..." (Romans 8:38-39.)
With the incessant shouts and troubling world issues coming at us from the culture, I (we?) will have to refocus faithfully in order to hear His heavenly music. As a disciple of Jesus I trust that "There's within my heart a melody"; and, that melody is the presence of Jesus saying I am with you. Carry on.. LIsten.
Yes, there surely is. Listen.
